Every couple of weeks my boyfriend and I take it in turns to arrange a date night and, being an active couple a lot of the time it involves some kind of sport (we’ve even had foot golf one time). This time he took me to Top Golf in Watford.
If you’ve not heard of Top Golf before, it’s essentially a golf driving range with a difference – the aim is to hit your microchipped ball into designated targets and score the most points. The cool thing is it’s got two floors, so if your on the top deck it’s a pretty cool experience.
We went on a Thursday night so we weren’t expecting it to be busy. How wrong we were, the downside of Top Golf is that you can’t reserve a bay – we were told there were 10 groups in front of us. We booked ourselves in and sat down for a drink. We had a wait of an hour, so next time I think we may grab some food whilst we wait.
This time we had a ground floor bay, you can see the targets in the picture above – there are targets further back but you can’t really see these from the picture. The range is floodlit so the fact it was pitch black wasn’t a problem. It’s £5.50 per game and you get 20 balls. We went for 2 games as we wanted to spend a little while there. You put your special golf balls in the tray and feed them through the hole, this registers your golf ball and your ready to go!
My first game was a wash out, golf balls flying in all kinds of directions and hardly any in the targets. Game two was much better, I don’t play golf much and was a little rusty but managed to get a fairly decent score (the bottom score is my boyfriends, he is a much better golfer!).
If your looking for a fun night out with a bit of a twist on a normal driving range I’d highly recommend Top Golf, they even have a mini golf course which is great fun too! As you can see it does get very busy at times, so the earlier or later you get there the better!
