I’ve Got A Cup Of Tea For That…

As you know, I love a cup of tea – I have a cupboard in my kitchen crammed full of different infusions. It’s getting a bit ridiculous – the amount of times I open that cupboard and boxes of tea rain down on me!

I think a cup of tea can help fix a lot of things, be that emotionally or physically. I have a tea that suits most moods or can help me get back on track when I’m feeling under the weather. Today I thought I’d share the five I seem to reach for the most.

  1. If my tummy is giving me trouble – Taylors of Harrogate Peppermint Leaf.

Peppermint tea

Peppermint tea is a firm favourite of mine, even when my tummy isn’t playing up I’ll happily sip on a cup of this. I find peppermint tea really refreshing and I will even drink this over ice on a hot summers day. Peppermint tea is good for digestion and is traditionally recommended after a meal. It’s also good to help calm queasiness, so if I’m ever feeling sick then I will reach for a cup of this.

2.  When my anxiety is getting the better of me – Marks & Spencer Calming Infusion (similar here) Relax tea

Although my anxiety is much less of a problem these days, there are some when it just gets the better of me. I try to help manage my anxiety as naturally as possible and I find exercising really helps, when I can’t get to the gym I will have a cup of this as the combination of camomile, lime flowers & lavender act as a natural relaxant. the combination of flavours is lovely too, you can taste the lavender but it’s not overpowering.

3. For the mornings when I can’t wake up – Pukka Supreme Matcha Green

Matcha tea

I have previously reviewed this lovely green tea (you can read that post here). I don’t enjoy plain green tea, but in the mornings I like the natural caffeine boost. Pukka supreme matcha green offers me a much needed morning kick and provides me with all the health benefits of green tea. The matcha adds a nice hint of sweetness so you don’t get the bitter taste that you get from plain green tea.

4. When I need help sleeping – Clipper Snore and Peace

Snore & Peace

I like to wind down in the evening with a cup of tea and a good book. I used to drink my calming blend before bed but I’ve recently discovered Clipper Snore & Peace. It’s a very similar blend to the Marks & Spencer calming infusion but this has the addition of lemon balm. I always feel calm and relaxed after drinking this and with the help from my book I find I can settle down and sleep comes quickly.

5. For the days I don’t want caffeine – Clipper Decaf Jasmine Green Tea

Jasmine Decaf

As I mentioned above I like to get the health benefits from drinking green tea but sometimes I don’t want the caffeine hit that comes with it. This is where I will reach for my Clipper decaf Jasmine green tea. The jasmine flower adds a lovely floral element to the tea and I always feel refreshed and that little bit healthier after drinking it.

I will always be a tea lover and will always be on the lookout for new blends or flavours that I can add into my daily routine. Let me know what infusions you enjoy – I always love to add to my tea cupboard!

My Goals For 2016

Goals for 2016

Every year around this time I like to sit down and make myself some goals for the upcoming year. I don’t tend to make New Years resolutions as such, I prefer to make more generalised goals to work towards instead. I thought I would share the five goals I’m setting myself for 2016.

1. Drink more water

So let’s get the old cliched drink more water goal out of the way! I really am terrible at drinking enough water, some days I end up with awful headaches and realise I’ve not drunk enough for the day. I’ve recently purchased a hydratem8 bottle to help encourage me to drink 2 litres a day. So far it’s making a world of difference and I will be posting a review soon.

2. Eat to fuel my workouts

As you’ll know from my previous posts I’ve lost three stone through diet and exercise and now I’m at my goal weight I want to eat in a way that fuels my strength training sessions and helps build me a stronger, leaner body. I’ve purchased Joe Wick’s lean in 15 cookbook to give me some recipe ideas.

3. Believe I can

Confidence is a big issue for me, I struggle sometimes in group social situations. I find I often get lost in a big group and struggle to interact. I need to work on believing in myself more and this year is the year I am determined to trust myself and build my confidence to a level where social situations don’t intimidate me anymore.

4. Start running again

I love to run, I find it relaxes me and helps me to feel strong. I stopped running over the summer as I was training for a charity walk and kind of forgot about my runs. Now the winter has rolled around again I am keen to get back out there! I intend to run once a week, on a Sunday just to build my cardiovascular fitness levels up again and just to get that amazing clear head feeling only a run can give!

5. Maintain good habits

The past two years of my fitness journey has taught me so much, mainly how exercise and a good diet helps raise my mood and energy levels, it helps boost my confidence and its helped me discover something that I love and is good for me in return! In 2016 I hope to continue my hard work and keep eating well and exercising, with a little treat along the way!

So those are the five main goals I’ve set for myself for 2016, I hope they will help me have a healthy, happy year!

What are your goals for 2016?

December Favourites

December has been a funny old month, with both my boyfriend and I being poorly. Luckily, I only had a bad cold but he got the full blown flu! This meant I didn’t get to they gym hardly at all this month as he really needed looking after and I didn’t want to compromise my immune system. I don’t have lots of favourites this month for the above reasons but there are a few things I’ve been loving and wanted to share them with you!

Mark Hill Styling Heat Protection Spray Available Here

I struggle with my hair on a daily basis. It’s just so damn frizzy! No matter what I do I always have to blowdry and straighten it to get it looking half way decent and if I don’t use a good heat protectant my hair turns into even more of a matted, frizzy mess! I’ve recently discovered Mark Hill heat protection spray and I love it! It smells really lovely, kind of reminds me of a professional salon scent and it not only protects my hair from all the heat it also adds a little bit of smoothness and hold which is a lovely added bonus!

Magnitone Lucid Cleansing Brush Available Here

This month I resolved to try and take better care of my skin, I wanted to get a product that gave my skin a deep cleanse but without being too harsh on my sometimes sensitive skin. Although not cheap at £69.99 the Magnitone Lucid is on the cheaper end of the scale when it comes to cleansing brushes. It has two modes, one of which is a lot kinder on the skin which is the setting I’ve been using. It’s fully waterproof too so it’s great for use in the shower. I’ve noticed my skin feels smoother and brighter since I’ve started using this – although it is still slightly too harsh to use every day so I use mine on an every other day basis.

Evian Facial Spray Available Here

I’ve been using this facial spray after cleansing with my Magnitone Lucid to help calm any redness and sooth my skin. I find it really refreshing and I intend to add this to my gym bag for a post exercise pick me up when I get back to the gym this week.

Get The Glow: Madeline Shaw Available Here

I’ve been looking at purchasing Madeline’s book for a while now and I’m so glad I did. It’s packed full of delicious, nutritious meal ideas that are all natural and low in refined sugars. I’ve made the raspberry chia jam shown above and it’s heavenly!  The turkey meatball recipe is pretty amazing too!

Lost Ocean – An Inky Adventure & Colouring Book: Johanna Basford Available Here

In December colouring books have definitely been my thing. As an anxious person, I’ve discovered colouring books help me escape from my thoughts and offer me a way of relaxing. Lost ocean is one of the most beautiful colouring books I’ve come across – I spent 2 happy hours colouring the whale above and I find I can completely lose myself in what I’m doing. I also got Johanna’s enchanted forest book for Christmas so I’m looking forward to starting that!

Food Favourites

Propercorn Sweet & Salty Popcorn Available Here

As a reformed cheese and onion crisp addict I’m always on the lookout for something to satisfy that satisfying crunch you get from a packet of crisps. Propercorn has been a long time favourite of mine – I find the combination of sweet and salt so uniquely satisfying. They are low calorie too so they are the perfect treat!

This is what I’ve been loving in December, sorry there aren’t many fitness favourites this month but as I say, I’ve not actually managed to get to the gym!

What has been on your favourites list this month? I’d love to hear!
